DESCRIPTION

A small cave near the village of Stromi at the roots of Giona. Today it is also called the “Cave of National Resistance” and is an important historical monument, a reference point in the struggle for Independence and a symbol of National Unity and Unanimity. It is the secret place where in the autumn of 1942 it was offered as a refuge to Greek and English paratroopers, where the plan of the first major resistance action was drawn up, which was the blowing up of the Gorgopotamos Bridge (25.11.1942) and where the coordination of the actions of the two main Greek Resistance Organizations was achieved. In this cave, today, the celebration of the National Resistance of the period of Occupation is now officially held, which ensures that the memory is kept in everyone’s minds.
