Gastronomy

As in all of Greece, in the land of Delphi you will enjoy the specialties of Roumeli cuisine as well as more classic or international flavors. In our place there are restaurants for every need, from a single visitor to large organized groups.

Olives, olive oil and fresh local products form the basis of the dishes and recipes you will try. Meat eaters and vegetarians will be delighted with the flavors. And as the proverb says: “Words are poor”. Action will truly reward you.

The visitor, during his stay in the Municipal Unit of Amfissa, can taste local flavors such as kontosouvli, traditional pies, cabbage rolls and delicious meze accompanied by local wines and spirits.

During the Christmas period, diples and kourabiedes with almonds are the most popular.

During the Shrove Tuesday period, housewives offer spoon sweets and halvah. A special place is occupied by the sweet walnut, which is harvested last summer in the beautiful and lush Drosochori, a cool and lush paradise, eight kilometers from Amfissa.

Excellent tsipouro is produced in the cauldrons of Prosiliou. The table is not missing the good sourdough bread that is baked to this day in bakeries with wood-fired ovens, as well as olive oil and canned olives, the famous variety of olives of Amfissa.

On the beachfront of Itea there are many taverns with fresh fish by the sea, restaurants, ouzo bars, café-bars and a rich market. It has an important, recently renovated, port that welcomes ships and cruise ships, a modern marina, where many Greek and foreign tourist boats anchor, especially in the summer, as well as a fishing shelter.

The gastronomy of Desfina will amaze you with its deliciousness and authenticity. The “psimarni”, a traditional Easter delicacy, reveals the deep connection of the local cuisine with the customs of the region. Along with the homemade rusks, the pies with fresh ingredients and the kontosouvli, they are just some of the dishes that you should not miss to try.

The region is famous for its gastronomic tradition, based on high-quality local products. In the villages of the Municipal Unit, visitors can taste local meats, aromatic pies, pure honey and excellent cheeses. In Athanasios Diakos, Stromi, Mousounitsa and Mavrolithari, the taverns serve excellent cooked food, which honors the local cuisine. Meat-based dishes, which are never missing from every table, stand out for their cuts and roasting, while the selections of wild mushrooms are also impressive.
