DESCRIPTION
Agia Paraskevi in Galaxidi is the oldest church in the town, with evidence suggesting it was built in the 17th century; the carved walnut iconostasis was installed in 1847. In 1911, Captain Ilias Skourtis carved a zodiac circle into the marble floor, creating an ancient-style solar calendar. With a sunbeam, precisely at noon, the light beam falls onto the circle and indicates the date. It is located in a quiet neighborhood, next to the second port of Galaxidi. It represents a rare example of religious architecture with a solar calendar and clock, rare in Greek churches.
